Welcome GACA Members! I would like to welcome everyone back to a new year of membership with the Genesee Area Counseling Association (GACA)! I am excited for what 2015-2016 holds for GACA and the Counseling profession. The GACA Executive Board is dedicated to working proactively on your behalf. I want to personally thank each of the executive board members for volunteering their time and investment to GACA. The Executive Board wants to hear from you whether it’s an idea for a meeting topic or sharing a resource with the group. GACA will be what we, the members make it to be. A list of the 2015-2016 Executive Board is posted on our About page, feel free to contact any of us if you want to get involved. Without your continued involvement in the counseling profession and our organization we wouldn’t be one of the strongest chapters of the Michigan Counseling Association (MCA)! We will continue to grow our online presence on Facebook at facebook.com/geneseecounseling and we are releasing a new website! Check out geneseecounseling.weebly.com for information about upcoming meetings – including RSVP, pictures, blog posts, and more. Remember we have a listserv that provides updates about meetings, Q&A for members, and other information such as professional development activities. If you have a question that you want to ask our members, simply email [email protected]. This year we have a great line up of meeting topics including: mindfulness, mental health first aid, private practice pointers, and counseling best practices. We encourage you to attend all meetings for professional development, to network with other counselors and enjoy and fantastic lunch. Remember to RSVP by visiting our website and clicking on Meetings at geneseecounseling.weebly.com. Please remember to renew your 2015-2016 GACA Membership. We’ve included the application in this newsletter for your convenience. If you aren’t a current member of the American Counseling Association and Michigan Counseling Association I strongly encourage you to become one. Remember, GACA is a State Chapter of the Michigan Counseling Association. To make your voice heard at the State and Federal levels it’s important to show membership and unity in our professional organizations. From my understanding you can even write off your professional memberships on your taxes, so join ACA and MCA today! JOIN YOUR COUNSELING PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS! Hurley has launched “Healthcare Career Days” for students 15-18 years of age. The program will run every third Friday from September through June (Minus December). If you have any questions or suggestions about the “Healthcare Career Days," please do not hesitate to contact Lisa Hasselbach (810) 262-9152 or [email protected]. If you hear of any high school students that are interested in job shadowing please share this great opportunity for them. |
